Welcome

On behalf of everyone at St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School, I warmly welcome you to our school website. Whether you are a parent who is seeking to choose a school for your child, a family whose child is currently attending our school, or someone who is interested in finding out what we offer at St Edmund’s, our website aims to provide you with all you need to know.

At St Edmund’s we strive for all our children to achieve their best academically as they progress in their learning journey. We also seek to recognise, value and nurture the individual qualities of each child. Through our weekly focus on the Federation’s values which identify the ‘Characteristics of an Effective Learner’, we teach, identify and celebrate a number of essential life skills which our children develop as members of our school community. Our accreditation as a Gold Rights Respecting School demonstrates the importance we place on supporting our children to understand the rights and responsibilities that they have as a member of our school community and as a global citizen in the wider world.

A strong emphasis is placed on providing our children with curriculum enrichment activities to enhance their learning throughout their time at St Edmund’s. These range from offering a wide variety of clubs, access to music tuition and numerous school trips relating to different aspects of the curriculum.

Located in the centre of Bury St Edmunds, we are extremely fortunate that our school grounds include a large playground, two field spaces, a large section of water meadow, which houses an outdoor classroom and a designated gardening area for our pupils to tend. We make maximum use of the outdoor environment in the children’s learning at St Edmunds which also includes the provision of weekly Forest School sessions.

Opportunities are provided for the children to broaden social relationships and collaborate with pupils at our Federation school, St Joseph’s, within our everyday teaching and learning but also via opportunities in key stage 2 for pupils to attend residential trips both in the UK and in France.

We were the first school in Suffolk to be awarded the Gold Linguamarque accreditation in recognition of the quality of our language teaching and the emphasis we place on pupils developing their knowledge and understanding of the differing cultures within our school community.

We are extremely proud of our school. Our website will give you a flavour of what goes on in our school, but we would strongly encourage you to come and visit in person so you can experience first-hand the atmosphere and workings of our school.

Thank you for visiting!

Kate Copeman, Head of School
